Biography

Darmi Jattani is a policy researcher and public finance specialist with over seven years of experience translating complex economic and fiscal data into actionable policy insights. Her work focuses on gender-responsive budgeting, climate-responsive public finance, social inclusion, and governance reforms in Kenya.

She has led and contributed to mixed-methods studies on fiscal equity, gender equality, climate adaptation, and decentralization, working closely with government agencies, civil society, media, and development partners. Darmi is also an experienced facilitator of evidence-to-policy dialogues and co-author of several research publications, policy briefs, and opinion pieces.

Career
Darmi Jattani is trained in economics and statistics, with seven years of experience in public finance management and policy research focused on transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance. Her work has advanced fiscal literacy across Kenya’s devolved system through evidence generation, policy advocacy, and institutional capacity strengthening.

She has conducted national and county budget analyses, supported legislative review processes, and engaged parliamentary and county assembly committees to promote fiscal justice in resource allocation. Darmi has led and contributed to mixed-methods studies on fiscal equity, gender equality, and climate adaptation, collaborating with government agencies, civil society, media, and development partners.

As an experienced facilitator of evidence-to-policy dialogues, she has trained more than 2,000 public officers, civil society organizations, media practitioners, and academics on budget processes and climate-responsive financing. She has also developed practitioner manuals on Kenya’s budget process and citizen accountability tools, integrating equity principles into research on livestock insurance, education assessments, and health financing.

Research Interests
Darmi Jattani’s research explores economics, gender analysis, and public policy to understand how fiscal systems can advance equity and strengthen adaptive capacity within devolved governance structures. Her work is grounded in examining the political economy of public financing, particularly how institutions, data, and social norms shape the distribution of resources and the accountability of governments.

Her recent work focuses on integrating gender and climate considerations into fiscal frameworks to make public finance systems more responsive and equitable. She has authored and co-authored over thirty articles, research papers, policy briefs, and commentaries on gender, economics, climate, and public finance, published through platforms such as Democracy in Africa, Southern Voice, The Elephant, and The Continent.
